I am writing to you with much excitement today. Want to know why...? Well, here is the news: I am finally starting my practicum! I chose a place, found a great mentor and set the times with my instructor. I am so excited to be on the last leg of my journey through Bauman College and I am so glad that you will get to be with me on it.

This past week has been ultimately.. stressful. I have really had to watch my stress levels and remind myself that stress = extra release of cortisol which is NOT good. So I make sure to read, journal, pray, stretch, workout and get outside. These are all wonderful ways to debrief and gain back a sense of control on your life. Whether you are homeless, foodless, friendless, jobless or whatever else-less, God will provide. He promises. Remember though, that it is in His time; not ours. Worrying about these things will lead to the high cortisol levels I mentioned above. This can lead to a number of different health issues such as: adrenal fatigue, hormone imbalance, insomnia, fat retention and much much more. The point is, acute stress is inevitable and chronic stress is preventable.

Now, back to my practicum. If you are in Spokane, or near Spokane, I would love for you to join me. I am going to be teaching a 5-week series on Eating for Health. This is a program that was designed by Dr. Ed Bauman, the founder of Bauman College. The classes will cover health 101, cooking tips, shopping suggestions, nutritional bandits and much more. I will be doing cooking demos and you know what that means: delicious little snacks! This 5-week series will give you a chance to take hold of your health. It will also give you the chance to learn the importance of knowing what is at the end of your fork. By the end of series you should feel empowered, educated and motivated. You will have a new outlook on healthy eating and healthy living. Here is a brief overview of the program:

Week 1: Orientation Class (meet & greet, overview, questions, debrief)

Week 2: Class 1 (introductory topic of my choice & food demo)

Week 3: Class 2 (continuation of week 1 and introduction of new topic)

Week 4: Class 3 (new topic of my choice & food demo)

Week 5: Class 4 (last class, debrief, send off, appointment scheduling)

So the class will be on Saturdays at Natural Grocers. It is a free class, but there is LIMITED space, so you must sign up with me. Via email, text, message or whatever your heart desires. I will ask that if you commit to the class that you attend all 5. At the end of the 5 weeks I will choose 2 participants that will get 4 weeks of one-on-one nutritional counseling. This includes meal plans, recommendations, handouts and personal meetings. Oh and I think I forgot to mention that this is all free :) You heard me right, FREE!

Since you all love recipes, here is a yummy smoothie recipe I created yesterday. I didn't take a picture because I downed it before I had the chance... sorry bout it. This smoothie will take away a belly ache, soothe a headache or simply please those picky taste buds. I felt a little off so I decided to whip this one up in the almighty Vitamix!

Turmeric Tummy Soother

1 tablespoon turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon spirulina powder

1/2 cup frozen mango

1/2 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 teaspoon ginger powder (I ran out of fresh ginger)

1/2 cup coconut milk

1/4 cup filtered water

*mix all in the vitamix

*pour in a glass mason jar

*insert your glass straw

*bombs away!
